Gourishankar Soni
Gourishankar Soni, born in 1980 in Sikar, Rajasthan, is a multidisciplinary artist known for his work in painting, printmaking, filmmaking, photography, and installations. He completed a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur in 2000, followed by a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Rajasthan, in 2003.
Deeply influenced by the rich cultural heritage and architectural beauty of Rajasthan, Soni’s art reflects themes of love, tradition, and historical grandeur. Monuments such as the Hawa Mahal remain enduring sources of emotional and aesthetic inspiration. As he puts it, “Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit.”
Soni’s works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions across India—in Delhi, Mumbai, and Jaipur—as well as internationally in countries such as Hungary and several regions in Africa. He has received several prestigious scholarships, including one from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (2004–05), a merit scholarship from the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi, and a grant from the national Lalit Kala Akademi.
He has actively participated in art camps and workshops, including 'Rang Malhar' in Jaipur, camps organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi and Jawahar Kala Kendra, and an international demonstration workshop in Africa.
His artworks are part of several public and private collections both in India and abroad.
