Born in 1965, Gaya, Bihar, Ashok completed his Post graduation in Sculptures from M.S. University, Baroda.
Ashok used to teach as a faculty of fine arts at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Mauritius, where he also setup a Metal Casting Foundry.
Ashok’s sculpting journey started with clay. Along with clay, he later worked with various other materials like plaster of Paris, fiberglass, metal, scrap metal, and various types of stones and marbles. Marbles became his favourite medium of art.
His sculptures have primarily been inspired from nature, particularly, flowers and birds. His skilled hands turned a hard marble into the softness of flower and the stillness of stone into the life of a bird.
Ashok has also sculpted many figurative sculptures, especially of women. He has also transformed his passion in yoga into sculptures of yogic postures using different materials. On his sculptures he has experimented with various kinds of textures, extracting hitherto unseen forms, bringing forth the emptiness of the human mind out into the open and crafting them into stones and marbles.
Ashok has held many solo as well as group exhibitions, as well as workshops, in India and abroad, including the international seminar in Carara, Italy, 2003; Neerja Modi International Marble Sculpting Symposium, Jaipur, 2011; Shiv Dham Yoga Centre, Orlando, USA, 2014; WZCC, Udaipur.
Ashok has received AIFACS, National and many prestigious awards such as a Diploma from Kemijarvi Wood sculpting association, Finland, 2003, 2007, 2013; Gunijan Samman by Keshav Navneet, Jaipur, 2004.
