Prof. Shabbir Hassan Quazi, Painter and Academician was born on 15th August 1946 in Ajmer. The impact of this holy spiritual city and its cultural environment remains with him right from his childhood throughout his life. He acquired MA Degree in drawing & painting from University of Udaipur in 1969 and received PhD in drawing & painting from M.L. Sukhadiya University, Udaipur in 1998.
In his art journey he has explored both nature and Sufism for his creation and they constitute the essence of his aesthetics, in the abstract modulating geometrical and calligraphic idioms expressed by him.
He transformed calligraphy into visual abstract form, where he sees a powerful, suggestive medium capable of capturing the rhythm of both nature and Sufism. These along with traditional arts was his major source of inspiration. Apart from these he also explored the abstract interaction between nature and human form as they emerge from a sub-consciousness and express life transforming values which guide our thoughts towards forces of compelling influence and charm.
He believe that man has access to the entire mind of the Creator, is himself the creator in finite. This view, animates me to create his own world through the purification of his soul.
He started teaching in Banasthali Vidyapeeth in 1969, and in 1974 proceeded to teach in Rajasthan university. In 1984 he was invited to join faculty of fine art, Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya. During his three years period he promoted and shaped–up several students into budding artists.
During 33 years of his teaching at the University of Rajasthan he enhanced the academic excellence of the University. He was instrumental in laying the foundation of a new program at faculty of fine arts. It was here that he embarked upon a phase held as his most important, which involved experiments with his method of teachings. He also officiated the University Administration as Member of the V.C. Committee.
He has won numerous awards, one of them is Medaillede Bronze from Crousel du Louvre Paris. He is the first Indian to receive this prestigious award given by the Societe National Des Beaux Arts Paris.
His paintings are exhibited at some prominent places like the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi’s residence, The Prime Minister’s residence, The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and The Lalit Kala Academy in New Delhi to name a few.
