Dr. Jagdish Prasad Meena

Dr. Jagdish Prasad Meena, an artist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Drawing and Painting at the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, has developed a distinctive contemporary visual language centred on the human figure, perception and the complexities of human experience. His artistic practice explores the human form through distortion, repetition, geometric structures, and multiple perspectives. Faces, eyes, and fragmented figures frequently appear within his compositions, transforming the familiar human form into an expressive field of visual experimentation. His work engages with elements of modern and contemporary art, including Cubist geometry, Pop Art, and montage, while retaining human life and its emotional dimensions as a central concern. Color plays an important role in his visual vocabulary, with blue appearing prominently in significant bodies of his work. His practice also includes portraiture and watercolor, reflecting a broader engagement with both observational and experimental approaches to painting. Through the interplay of color, form, and human imagery, Meena's paintings invite viewers to look beyond physical representation towards questions of identity, emotion, and perception.
Alongside his studio practice, Dr. Meena has contributed to the academic study of Indian art. His research interests include Indian painting traditions, miniature painting and the representation of human emotions in art, including studies of the Kishangarh miniature tradition. His work as an educator and researcher complements his practice as an artist, placing contemporary artistic exploration in dialogue with India's rich visual heritage.
Through painting, teaching and research, Dr. Jagdish Prasad Meena continues to explore the relationship between the human figure, contemporary visual language, and the cultural and emotional contexts that shape human experience.
