Soumen Khamrui  is a contemporary Indian artist whose work captures the essence of rural life and its connection to human emotions, memory, and nature. Born and raised in West Bengal, Soumen developed a deep appreciation for the simplicity and harmony of village life, which became a recurring theme in his artistic practice. He honed his craft at the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, where he completed his B.F.A., laying a strong foundation for his journey as a professional artist.

 

Soumen’s art is characterized by its rich textures, earthy tones, and a poignant blend of realism and abstraction. His compositions often explore the themes of identity, nostalgia, and the interconnection between humans and their environment.

 

Drawing inspiration from his surroundings, Soumen weaves stories that resonate with universal emotions while staying rooted in the specificities of rural Bengal. He employs a unique visual language that reflects his sensitivity to detail and his ability to evoke complex moods with minimal elements. Some of his notable exhibitions include Echoes of the Earth, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (2020); Rhythms of Life, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2018); Fragments of Nature, Emami Art, Kolkata (2016). He has also participated in esteemed group shows such as India Art Fair, Bharat Bhavan Biennale, and West Bengal State Art Exhibition, showcasing the diversity and depth of his artistic vision.

 

Soumen’s works have been widely appreciated for their emotive quality and technical brilliance. He has received several accolades, including awards from the West Bengal State Academy of Fine Arts and recognition at national art camps. His paintings are part of prominent private and public collections across India.


Currently residing and working in Kolkata, Soumen continues to delve into the interplay of human experience and nature in his art.
